World’s population growth over
the last 10 000 years World’s population growth
supposedly depends on or is linked to different factors: 1) climate and its changes 2) kinds of domestic animals goat since 11 000 years chicken since 2 000 years pig since around since 8 500
years cow / taurine since 10 500
years 3) food supply / agricultural
methods, plough / use of cow or horse as draft animal wooden plough since 4 000
years use of cow or horse as draft
animal since 2 500 bronze plough since 1 500 iron plough since 1 000 4) conservation methods /
pottery, ceramics / salt pottery since 29,000 – 25,000 salt around 800 BC 5) technical development smelting metals since 8 000 charcoal since 30 000 years coal since 3 500 BC ferrous / iron metallurgy since
4th millennium BC bronze since 3500 BC
Conclusion: It’s still not quite clear to
what extent climate change is linked to human activity and vice versa. However, we know that the
improvement of living conditions lead to growth of population in certain,
especially poorer, regions. ------------------------------------------- Of course, we shouldn’t destroy
our environment. A city with many trees is much nicer than one only with
concrete. Cancer incidence rates, adjusted
for population age distribution, are different in rural and urban areas. Lung
cancer rates are lower in rural areas with rates approximately 65% of those
in urban areas, probably due to air pollution. On the other hand, breast and
prostate cancer incidence rates are higher in village areas by approximately
8% and 11% respectively.
