The history of the angels In the Old Testament there are actually only a few and rather inaccurate descriptions of angels or so-called seraphim. According to the Bible, the prophet Elijah is said to have seen one and was almost scared to death. It looked like a monster with its four heads, two lion heads and two human heads, with its eight legs, eight arms and eight wings. Since the language of the New Testament was ancient Greek, the name of the messenger of the gods "Angelos" was adopted, which was naturally male.
