Rodion Raskolnikov
In his book “Crime and Punishment”,
Fedor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky describes a young man who draws our attention
to the fact that great things or people have not always acted morally right
from the beginning, but that the history is generally only concerned with the
result. And so he too feels entitled to finance his beginning with murder.
Morally, however, he cannot stand this act, and becomes more and more
entangled in his excuses. The detective only has to listen to him very
carefully because Raskolnikov is betraying himself, perhaps even wanting to
betray himself.
Have we not forgotten something
or someone? What role does Sonya play? Just a supporting role? Is Raskolnikov
condemned by the court? Only to the deprivation of liberty, but Sonya takes
over the moral punishment. She is the bridge to reality, to present life. The
survival of mankind depends on how many children are born and for this a men
and a women must first love each other and produce the fruit of this feeling.
In this story, the woman plays the role of caution and compromise with time,
because time was not yet ripe for fundamental changes. The woman, the human,
simply wanted to survive and had to bring the man, the other human, back into
reality. However, both were right; without the urge to move forward, things
cannot go further and without caution, people have no time to become mature,
to fight for their freedom. However, sometimes, in the opinion of a many, a
human has to compromise and betray or postpone his principles for a time.
For Fedor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky,
Sonya was perhaps the last inclination, the last connection to life that he
expressed in his story.
